Whimbrels Wymott Ponds Area

Post by 1swallow »

First rate local birding again recording 51 species in less than 3 hours. Highlights again were the Whimbrels and Warblers. I had 2 reeling Grasshopper Warblers this morning. Just after first light I had superb views of the one reeling in the reed bed area on the corner of Ridley Lane and the fishing pond. If you look from here there are only 2 bushes in the reed bed. One is a small Willow tree. I scoped the bird singing in this tree.

The other bird was singing in some rank vegetation close to the railway line where I’ve been watching the Whimbrels. Also Lesser Whitethroat singing in the hedge in this area.

The Whimbrel count was up to 81. Unfortunately for me I hadn’t quite finishing counting them all before they took off around 7a.m. There were a few more birds. 3 had returned to the field when I’d finished birding this area.
