Early morning on the moors

Post by Jed Kirkham »

Brinscall-Gt Hill via main track-GH Farm-Dean Black Brook-Coppice Stile returning via top of the bluff-Heatherlea Woods. 0545hrs-0910hrs

Pheasants - at least 16, I'd heard 4 from Well Lane before 6am!
Similarly, there appeared more Red Grouse than usual, and many Meadow Pipits and Skylark.
Didn't do full counts but noted:
Curlew - saw 4, but heard fairly frequently, estimate 3 pairs in the area.
Buzzard at GH Farm, pair Stonechat and Wrens there too, together with 1 Reed Bunting, another RB noted east of Coppice Stile.
Stonechat (2 pairs) near top of DB Brook in new plantation.
Blackbird singing again in wood near Drinkwaters (plus TO), small flock Goldfinch. Tadpoles still present in puddle.
Greenfinch singing at bottom Well Lane.
GS Woodpecker drumming east of my garden.

Overnight flytipping (bah!!!) at the top end Well Lane which I'll report to Chorley Council, plus some in the woods too.
