The fast Song Thrushes/GS Woodpeckers

Post by Jed Kirkham »

Pair of Song Thrush in the garden daily, male singing. They are the fastest-eating of our garden birds, nothing picks up so many suet nuggets as quick as these birds...

Also a pair of GS Woodpeckers earlier - watching them at close quarters you can appreciate what a bill they have - a super-bill. Similar to a Kingfisher? Incidentally, there is an excellent BBC Sounds series of podcasts, "30 Animals that Made Us Smarter", I've attached a link, you may be aware of these programmes already. For instance, how a Japanese birder/engineer used a Kingfisher to re-design the Bullet Train to eliminate noise; how Woodpeckers skulls are helping us to re-design safer and stronger bike helmets - made out of cardboard!
