After Len's notes from y'day spent almost 3 hours today covering Common Bank and the surrounds. At about 3.45pm in the trees to the west of the river, directly opposite the Gillibrand North roundabout a woodpecker started calling, frequent higher pitched notes than expected for GSWoodpecker. At the same time a GSW was doing the right call (infrequently) near the lodge. If this website is correct for LS Woodpecker, the call just heard was identical.

Stood looking into the trees for quite a while after the calls stopped but no sign of any woodpeckers. This is the most confident set of calls I have had in this area linked to LS Woodpecker (if the website link is correct). I have struggled to find a match on xeno-canto though as they all have the typical song listed as call.
Was this similar to what you heard Len?

Ian,
I admire your tenacity, the call I heard was similar in pitch, but at a faster rate.
