Red Hedges

Walk from Brinscall-Great Hill-Roddlesworth-Abbey Village-Brinscall yesterday 11.30-16.30hrs.

4 Buzzards calling/circling above Heatherlea Woods just after I set out. 3 flew over quite low. Other birds around the garden/in the woods: Jackdaws, House Sparrows, Great Tits, Woodpigeons, Goldfinch, 1 Bullfinch heard, Wrens, Carrion Crows and a Jay. A female Stonechat at top of Well Lane, later saw a pair near the summit Gt Hill, and another pair at Pimms. 1 Raven at summit Gt Hill. 8 Meadow Pipits on the moors.

A flock of about 40-50 birds feeding between the Belmont Rd and around Hollinshead Hall at 1400hrs. Chaffinch, Gt Tits, Coal Tits, Long-tailed Tits, Blue Tits, Nuthatch, and 3 Brambling - first of the autumn seen. Also a few Robins, a Magpie and lots of Woodpigeons.
Also in the woods 1 Gt Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Treecreepers, together with Tits, Nuthatches.
Top reservoir: 5 Mallard and 2 Buzzard over.
Lower Reservoir: 0

4 Redwing feeding on the Hawthorn along Dole Lane - there are a lot of Hawthorn berries this year. Autumn 2019, the time of red hedges...
