Croston/mawdesley moss .

Windy day on the mosses , no waders seen at all , cuckoo seen again on the stubble field near to railway line , at least 1 yellow wagtail with sev eral white wagtails on the alma wood flood , hobby seen in hunting mode near to the wood , several kestrel , 4 buzzard , lots of gulls on the flood waters , small goldfinch flock .

I wonder if the cuckoo is a local bird given how much time its spent in the area , also of note a great count of 20 yellow wagtails at nearby martin mere .

Nice to bump into Gary this morning, though the only birds I can add to his list were a Moorhen with 2 juveniles on one of the ditches and a solitary Lapwing.

The most notable sighting was 2, possibly 3 Wall Brown butterflies by the old EA depot at Great hanging Bridge.
Also Red Admiral 2. Painted Lady 2.

male Southern Hawker by the railway line. Common Darter 4-5. Brown Hawker 2.
Blue tailed Damselfly.

Early morning visit Monday.

Green Sandpiper 1 over Great Close floods
Ringed Plover 1 probable (or LRP) distantly on back of the field which previously held Golden Plover.
Swallow 50+ on Great Close.
Kestrel 3-4
Buzzard 1
Canada Goose 2 dropped briefly onto Great Close floods
Whitethroat 1
Stock Dove c10
Mixed Gulls c50
