Great Knowley variety

Post by paul b »

Up to 8 house martins high over railway cutting during the day; similar numbers of swift over former quarry, 2 swallow.
Raven flew over garden, calling. Buzzard circling too.

Bird numbers have fallen as food restricted to discourage rats -but still adults and juveniles of blackbird, great tit, blue tit, coal tit, robin plus adult wren, dunnock, wood pigeon, song thrush, goldfinch, chaffinch, green finch. Sparrowhawks -both male and female- regularly fly through.

Insects -singles of peacock, red admiral, comma plus three large white in garden; 5+ meadow brown, 10+ small skipper on former quarry. Fewer bees than expected but several white tailed and common carder bumblebees in garden.
