Lovely evening stroll to try and get seconds of the Shrike. No sign between 6-8pm. However, a great walk for new year birds.
1 Whimbrel over the goit.
5M and 1F Wheatear
1F Ring Ouzel (near the ruin, flew off strongly north)
Twite - 2 birds and then a single bird calling, with one seen briefly
Golden Plover - calling near the top of Great Hill
Red Grouse - calling
6 new year birds takes me to 98 for the year
Of note, a very pale Common Buzzard sat in one of the trees in the Shrike area.

Ian, it must have been you and your son I saw coming off the moors about 8.00. Sounds like more to see up there (GGS notwithstanding) than lower down. Distant cuckoo calling (although Neil S got a good views of it), dipper, grey wag, several redpoll and a singing goldcrest of note along the Goit.

That'll have been us Much calmer conditions up top than last time which meant things were easier to see/hear.

Twite is a very good record, Ian. Well spotted.
The Cuckoo was seen in silent flight across the quarry heading towards Brinscall. Male Kestrel also seen there, and a Grey Heron flying onto the Goit. Otherwise as Neville.
Cuckoo takes me to 102.
