Croston Finney

Post by Neil Southworth »

Went in search of Golden Plover on the field across the Douglas. A flock of 60 Lapwings was on the stubble field, plus around 30 Starlings and 6 BH Gulls, but no sign of Golden Plover. A lorry coming out of the farm across the A581 put up all the Lapwings and they didn't return. I could see there were Lapwings across the river on Great Close so decided to go there. Didn't need to! When I got back to the road the Lapwings had relocated to a field across the road and bang in the middle of them was a single Golden Plover* giving superb views.
I then went on the Finney and almost immediately flushed a Snipe* by the fence line on Finney Lane. There was also a flock of ca100 Skylark in the first field. Went over to Great Close and sure enough there were around 50 Lapwing there and even better at least a dozen Golden Plover.

Golden Plover and Snipe take me to 81
