Arley Reserve - Withnell Fold

Post by Neville Root »

9.30-10.15am - impromptu visit to Arley reserve on the way back from Wigan flashes -:( teal (c15), cormorant, coot (2), moorhen (5), gr heron (2), woodpigeon, jackdaw, redwing (c.30), song thrush, tit flocks.

10.30-12.15 - Withnell Fold flashes: Canada goose, fake greylags, jackdaw, flushed 9 c snipe from the relatively dry flashes and then a male merlin flew into the rough grass the other side of the stream/fence - flushing about 20 snipe - disappeared for 15 mins or so and then gave great views from a post in the middle of the rough grass (seen plenty of merlin at Hesketh OM\Marshside over the winter but nothing as close as this).

Merlin, Canada goose, jackdaw, Gillibrand feral pigeon and Morrison peregrine takes Chorley total to 81.
