Chorley wanderings (Sat)

Post by Neville Root »

11.00-12.45pm - Croston Finney: *pink foots (12) in flight, dozen teal on the Douglas, *little egret mobile across the Finney, *lapwing, *linnet flock (30), few *skylark, buzzard, kestrel (2), flushed 4 *red-legs quickly followed by doing the same to a *green sandpiper from the ditch running off Croston pumping station. Nearby, a couple of dead\decomposed whoopers in the ditch below the wires (this may have been posted already) could do with extending the warning plates from High Lane.
1.15-1.45pm - High Bullough Reservoir: *goldeneye pair, tufted duck (14), moorhen (2).
2.00-3.30pm - Lower Rivington: taking a leaf out of Ian's book, I spent an hour and a half trying to identify gulls. I couldn't identify a Y-L gull from the several argentatus ssp amongst the smaller argenteus herrings. Plenty of *GBB, *LBB, common, B-H and a single *Med gull (half-way to attaining its black head). Also *cormorant, goosander (f), G-C grebe, lapwing (20), pied wagtail and a skein of c.70 pink foots flying across the Pike.

12 species today takes Chorley total to 58.
