Withnell Fold

I was hoping recent rains would have started to replenish the flashes, but just the opposite. No water at all in any of the pools and therefore no birds. A farmer was spraying a field presumably with glyphosate, and worse still, he was being followed by around 50 BH Gulls. I hope they survive.
The nature reserve was no better. There has been a total absence of management for some years now, other than to remove the boardwalk which had collapsed - through lack of management. There appears to be no open water in any of the reedbed areas, so no doubt natural succession will soon mean they will be infilled by woodland. The few birds seen included 7 Stock Dove, two or three Fieldfare, several Jay which are still very vocal, several calling Nuthatch, a few Meadow Pipit, one or two Pied Wagtail and a party of 3 Reed Bunting

There was talk of Lancashire Wildlife Trust taking over the management of the LNR- presumably this hasn't happened -maybe CDNHS should lobby for it to take place or at least for some investment in the habitats?
