These last few weeks have seen an absolute explosion of fungi in our local woodlands with thousands of individual fungi seen, from such rarities as the Tiered Tooth fungus to many others not often recorded in our area such as the Giant Polypore, Rosy Bonnet, Wood Blewit, Destroying Angel, Green-cracked Brittlegill, Girdled Webcap, Orange Webcap, False Chatrelle, Purple Jelly Disc, Sulphur Knight and many many more.
As is traditional at this time of year Chorley and District Natural History Society will be holding a fungal foray at White Coppice on Saturday the 29th, September. Meet at the car park next to the Cricket field at 9.00am, all are welcome. Let's hope the display continues until then.
On a much sadder note someone has cut out and taken the Tiered Tooth fungus a rare Red Listed Species.
