Anglezarke Moors

Post by Paul Hodson »

White Coppice- Stronstrey bank- Pikestones- Round Loaf - Great Hill.
A glorious day for a wander over the moors, but the views of the inferno on Winter Hill were depressing to say the least.

The only birds seen on the moors were Skylark. Meadow Pipit. Linnet 2 and Kestrel.

White Coppice. Reed Bunting. Lesser Redpoll. Great spotted Woodpecker. Grey Heron. Grey Wagtail. Pied Wagtail.

Butterflies. Near the Pikestones were Meadow Brown. Small Skipper 3. Small Heath 2, also an Ashy Mining Bee.

Most of the small pools on the moors have completely dried up, the couple I found that still held water had 11 Large Red Damselflies between them, also a brief glimpse of a Newt in one of them, probably a Palmate but couldn't be sure.
