Croston Finney - R Yarrow

Post by Neville Root »

8.00-10.00am - walk along very overgrown and bug-ridden bank of the Yarrow, not good for walking but great for the whitethroat, sedge warbler and reed bunting, also heron, oystercatcher & shelduck (7). Not much on the mono-cultured fields - a few lapwing and skylark, with corvids & pigeon on the rough ground nr the twin hedge. No raptors seen/heard.

Croston sewage works/Twin Lakes - LBB gull, Canada goose (25+), shelduck and GC grebe with young, house martin (10), swallow (5), single swift, stock dove (3), oystercatcher, goldcrest & young, common whitethroat (3), sedge warbler (5), tree sparrow (8), goldfinch, yellowhammer, reed bunting (6). No sign of the tern. 6 swift over Croston driving home.

Odonata: good numbers of blue, azure & blue-tailed damselfly and banded demoiselle (along banks of Yarrow)

Lepidoptera: small white, burnet moth (at Twin Lakes)
