White Coppice area

Post by Neil Southworth »

Heapey No.3 lodge:- the pair of Mute Swans have now produced 6 cygnets. I was worried that there was no sign of the adult male, but then found it on No.5 (aka Smith's lodge), obviously getting away from the kids! Also Mallard with 5 ducklings, and Willow Warbler singing.
White Coppice to Heatherlea Woods:- Cuckoos singing at 3 locations, but possibly the same bird, although the first one, heard at White Coppice, then sounded as if it was drifting off towards Anglezarke. The second one was at the usual place near Heatherlea Woods and the third near Peacock Cottage. One was also seen in silent flight being chased by Meadow Pipits. Other sightings included Curlew, Grey Wagtail with 2 young, Pied Wagtail 2, Blackcap 5, Chiffchaff 2, Garden Warbler, Willow Warbler 12, Wood Warbler, Lesser Redpoll, Reed Bunting. 2 Jackdaws on the cricket pitch is a sign of the times.
Insects:- Orange Tip <5, Peacock
Mammal:- Grey Squirrel
