Eyes Lane/Sollom

Post by Paul Hodson »

Lunchtime stroll around Eyes Lane and the canal at Sollom.

The flooded fields were pretty quiet, the only sightings of note being Redshank 2. Black Tailed Godwit 2. Great Black Backed Gull 2 and several Shelduck and Lapwing.
2 Ringed Plover flew in as I was on the return leg.

Linnet. Blackcap*. Several Goldfinch and Chaffinch were on the Lane between Red bridge and Sollom.

The canal and adjacent fields had at least 4 Reed Warbler*. Reed Bunting 2. Common Sandpiper.* Grey Heron. Lapwing 14. Moorhen 2.
The canal has obviously been dredged recently, there were hundreds of freshwater mussel shells, on the bank.

River Douglas. Goosander 2. Common Whitethroat 2*. Swallow 3. Common Sandpiper (possibly the same one spotted on the canal) Reed Bunting 2.

On and around the manure heaps were Yellowhammer. Several Meadow Pipit. Wheatear 3. Pied Wagtail and a stunning Yellow Wagtail*.

*5 new sightings take my score to 112
