Eyes Lane - yet another wader !

Post by John Frankland »

With 8 Ruff and 19 Black-tailed Godwit was a feeding Little Ringed Plover !

Slimmer than the recent Ringed Plovers with a slimmer beak, longer wings, narrow breast band, no AA yellow on bill or legs and views of yellow eye.

Still present 430pm.

LRP takes me to 109 species for the year.

LRP still here at 6.20pm dear, with the ruff, lapwings and godwits (also 2 LBB gull, heron and 3 teal). The eye ring is a bit indistinct (even with scope) but everything else points to LRP.

LRP and a Hic Bibi singing chiffchaff makes it a ton up for the yearly species total.

Not sure why predictive text came up with 'dear', but definitely no deer (especially as we're banned from posting them)

Well done Neville on another ton - I similarly struggled with the eye ring through the scope but got a couple of brief views in about 40 minutes of watching when it came slightly closer.

Glad it was still there for you.

Cheers.

Thanks for the heads up on the LRP John. I had good views through my scope even though it was distant.
Nice meeting you again.

Mid afternoon during the short dry spell!

On the flooded field - 10 Ruff, around a dozen Lapwing, 4 BH Gull, 4 Shelduck, 1 pair of Teal. All except for the Teal and Shelduck were put up by an unseen raptor. The Ruff headed northwest and did not return. 4 Lapwing and 2 BH Gulls came back before the rain returned in force. A Common Buzzard was later seen - it could have been the culprit. Redshank heard.

On the River - 2 Mallard, 2 Canada Geese and 2 Pied Wagtails white water rafting on floating debris.
