Eyes Lane, Bretherton

Post by Neil Southworth »

A single Black-tailed Godwit on the flood was a welcome sight. A couple of Oystercatcher were also there, plus c250 Lapwing. There were no swans present and only 7 Shelduck. There were, however c400 BH Gulls and a single LBB Gull. Several scans through couldn't find anything else. c100 Crows and Jackdaws were keeping the gulls company on the flooded stubble field, along with c30 Starling and a few Skylark, 2 or 3 of which were singing. There were also plenty of Pied Wagtail flitting around both floods. On the river were 16 Canada Geese, a dozen Mallard and a couple of Moorhen. No raptor was seen until just as I was leaving when all the gulls and crows etc were put up by a Merlin which flew them, skimming the surface. :D
Black-tailed Godwit and Merlin take me to 80.
