Hoghton Weir Fish Pass

Post by Mike Graham »

I see that planning permission for a fish pass has been approved by Chorley Council. The application was from Ribble Rivers Trust. I am pleased this work is being done but would have liked to comment direct to Chorley Planning as part of the application process. Work starts in June and will last circa 6 weeks.

My concerns are the potential impacts on birds and mammals. The immediate area has Roe Deer, a badger set 1/2 mile from the agreed access, and otter have been seen (not by me). Kingfishers parol the River Darwen (still in Chorley) nearby upstream and there are barn owls, tawny owls and dippers as well as numerous bats.

Given the planning has been passed (I presume they. Only consult with statutory consultees if there are no nearby properties) I doubt if much can now be done?
