Croston Finney - R Douglas

Post by Neville Root »

4.45-6.45pm - windless conditions helped the raptors this evening - managed to get a female merlin (5.00pm) in the scope just after making a kill (plenty of skylark about) in the field with the scarecrow in the high viz jacket - stayed for 30 mins to feed before flying off west towards Rufford. Also Buzzard, kestrel, close encounter with a sparrowhawk flying out of the double hedge, goosander (pr), lapwing (30), single redshank with 16 oystercatcher on the river bank. Later on distant view in fading light of a barn owl (6.15pm) and finally little owl (6.35pm) calling from its regular spot. Several grey partridge calling at dusk.

Merlin, barn & little owl and redshank take Chorley species total for the year to 88.
