Croston/mawdesley moss at dusk.
On my arrival at the rufford end spotted a bird in flight heading west my first feeling was of a possible Short eared owl ( slow floppy wing beat ) but it also could have been a egret species , on the river there was a single redshank , kestrel flew by , heard a buzzard , a grey partridge was calling , 2 moorhen were calling from the flooded railway line area , as the light faded to near darkness i flushed a small covey of partridge , a single woodcock flew over me at 6.00pm , heard a snipe , small skein of pinkfoot passed over , a single teal sprung up off a flooded field , spotted a possible rat running along a ditch , 2 loud splashes in a drainage ditch could have been a mink or another rat .
