Lower Healey

Post by Neil Southworth »

Both lodges had 70% ice cover which was a bit surprising since this morning was the first frost for a while. There were only gulls on the water on top lodge with around 70 BH Gulls, 6 Common Gulls and a Herring Gull standing on the ice. All the wildfowl were on the bank with just 6 Mallard, a female Goosander, a Coot, a Moorhen and a Grey Heron. Bottom lodge held 12 Tufted Duck, 8 Mallard and 3 or 4 Coot. A Lapwing was back on the horse field. It's amazing how site loyal these birds are.
Also noteworthy was the number of Song Thrushes singing. Nice to hear. Other sightings of interest included, Kestrel, GS Pecker (2 sightings) and 2 or 3 Jay and 50 or so Woodpigeon. Very few finches and no winter thrushes.
Mammal sighting:- Grey Squirrel (not sure I've seen one there before).
