Tincklers fields and Syd Brook, (long meadows)

Post by John Edwards »

A short visit to Tincklers fields then on to Syd Brook, 38 Pied Wagtails on the smallholding was a good count, also there 40 Redwings, 10 Fieldfare, 50 Black Headed Gulls and various Corvids, a Raven flew over crooning.
Syd Brook, Buzzard, Kestrel, Heron and Nuthatch all seen, a Gt Black Backed Gull flew over, the Raven presumably the same one seen earlier was over the fields to the South still calling. I havn't visited this area for a while and was disappointed to see how much the area has deteriorated, 8 -10 horses were grazing the fields with most of the vegetation gone, some sort of a lean-to had been built presumably for the horses and a car abandoned on one of the fields.

Hi John. With being new to this forum and birding around Eccleston/Bretherton just wondering whereabouts you actually go for Tinckler's Fields and Syd Brook. Thanks

Hi Mark,
Tincklers fields are the footpaths that run from Tincklers Lane (off Doctors Lane) West as far as Syd Brook Lane, they can also be accessed from Anchorfields a cul de sac off Towngate.
Syd Brook (Long meadows) is the area behind Beechfields housing estate ( again off Doctors Lane) you can walk west which brings you out further along Tincklers Lane or east which takes you to Woodart Bridge or walk south to Wrennels Lane , Knowles Wood is along here. You will definitely need wellingtons on either of these walks.
