Despite the weather, decided to still venture out with my wellies for a bit of a squelch in the hope of a Jack Snipe.
Firstly, I tried the rough field at the back of Twin Lakes. Whilst there was some suitable looking terrain, no snipe seen. A few Redwing and Song Thrush seen.
Secondly, I tried behind the E shaped ponds. Flushed 3 Common Snipe and 3 Pheasants. Also, 2 prs of Goosander on the R Lostock. [Side point - there is a dead grey horse in the marsh towards the ponds. If anyone knows the horse owners, please could you let them know.]
Thirdly, I tried Lower Burgh Meadows. After a Panic of 10-12 Common Snipe shot up noisily (don’t know what a group of Snipe is called but a Panic sounds OK to me !!), a smaller quiet *Jack Snipe rose as I got closer and with a straight flight, relocated a short distance away. A Kestrel was hunting too.
At the feeding area near the tip, one Blue Tit and one Brown Rat !
Anglezarke North End
Decided to try my luck with the Green Woodpecker in between the wintry showers but no joy today.
Pochard 1m still present. Also 6 Canada Geese. 1m Goosander over.
Also, the distinct shape and size of 2 *Raven over from the direction of White Coppice.
* 2 new species takes me to 88 for the year.
Out and about 16/1
