Croston Moss & Meadow Lane (A581)

Croston Moss - Birds seen/heard - 12+ Fieldfare, Pheasant, Magpie, Carrion Crow, 1 Raven, Blackird (including a leucistic one with a lot of white on its head), 4 Song Thrush, Chaffinch, Reed Bunting, Corn Bunting, House Sparrow, Tree Sparrow, Pied Wagtail, Woodpigeon 200+, Yellowhammer, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, 4 Moorhen, 1 Pink footed Goose in field off Sumner's Lane (possibly an injured bird), Great White Egret at first on flooded field to east or railway then in marshy area to west of railway, several large Skeins of Pink footed Geese landing in Mawdesley area, small flock of Canada Geese over, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Brambling (double hedge, but probably more), Lapwing flocks of ~200 and ~80 in flight with a single Ruff, (and possibly some Golden Plover - need to review photos to be sure), 1 Kestrel (m), Skylark singles and 2 flocks of around 20, mixed flock in willows next to railway included at least 2 Willow Tit and several Bullfinch, flock of around 40 Redwing, Linnet 150+.

Meadow Lane, Gt Hanging Bridge to Croston - 100+ Chaffinch in hedgerows along A581 included several Brambling (noted by call only), Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Pied Wagtail 6+, Meadow Pipit 2, Carrion Crow and several Starling on soil/dung heaps in field to south of Meadow Lane (could be a possible location for a Water Pipit!), flock of 30+ BH Gulls and a single Herring Gull, in the hedges between Croston Sewage Works and the river were approx 200 Linnet.

Pheasant, Linnet, Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting, Corn Bunting, Brambling, Tree Sparrow, Meadow Pipit, Skylark, Bullfinch, Willow Tit, Common Buzzard, Kestrel, Raven, Pink Footed Goose, Song Thrush, Fieldfare, Redwing, Great White Egret, Lapwing, Ruff takes my 2018 species score to 62.
