Croston Finney/Moss

Post by Paul Hodson »

Did a circular walk around Croston Finney and Moss this afternoon, plus a mooch along the Douglas for a look at the Eyes Lane flood, good numbers of birds, including a flock of roughly 2000 Starlings that performed a rather impressive murmuration over the Finney.
Another highlight was a herd of 148 Whooper Swans and 6 Mute Swans on the flooded fields on the Moss, until they were put into the air by two chaps (who looked old enough to know better) who seemed to deliberately spook them whilst filming it with their phones,
Other sightings. Pink Footed Geese c600 overhead, headed west.. Lapwing 400+. Ruff 14. Linnet c60. Chaffinch c20. Skylark c20. Stonechat. Yellowhammer. Several small flocks of Redwing and Fieldfare.
