Withnell Fold flashes and canal.

Post by Neil Southworth »

It looked quiet when I first arrived, but the birds eventually showed. There were only half a dozen Teal and no Snipe in the marsh, but the Lapwing flock is still around with its accompanying Starlings and now BH Gulls. There was also a large (30+) flock of Long-tailed tits moving along the canal, and there were also a couple more flocks nearer to the village. Sightings:-
Canada Goose 24, Mallard 6, Teal 6, Moorhen 3, Buzzard, Pheasant, Grey Heron, Lapwing c200, BH Gull 80, Common Gull, Woodpigeon 6, Stock Dove 4, Little Owl, Pied Wagtail, Mistle Thrush, Redwing 6, Blackbird 2, Robin, Wren, Dunnock, Blue, Great, Coal Tit, 3 flocks of LT Tit inc one of 32, Goldcrest, Nuthatch, Jay 2, Magpie, 200+ Crow / Jackdaw, Chaffinch, Goldfinch
