White Coppice

Post by Neil Southworth »

Glorious evening at White Coppice, where after a slow start, plenty of birds were flitting about in the bracken. These included a family party of at least 5 Stonechat, including a pristine adult male. There were also several canary yellow juvenile Willow Warblers. Lesser Redpoll were flying here and there as they do, and several Swallow were above the quarry. A flock of Long-tailed Tits was moving along the Goit. Raptors included at least 2 Kestrel, a Peregrine and a calling Buzzard. The only singing bird was a Song Thrush.
Mammals:- a young Hedgehog was seen, hopefully it was OK.

I was there also this evening, was confused by the yellow birds from a distance so it's interesting to learn they were probably juv willow warbler. Redpoll around and the thrush were singing loudly, also a couple of deer in the bracken and finally a reeling Grasshopper Warbler towards Anglezarke end.
