Serotine bat in Chorley?

Post by Keith Woan »

Whilst on a bat walk in Astley Park this evening being led by Harold Green of Merseyside & West Lancashire bat group a bat was flying around the lake area and Harold was sure, but not certain, that it was a Serotine and he believes this would be a first for Chorley.

Keith, a Serotine was recorded in Chorley several years ago, also in Astley Park. I'll try to dig out the details.

I had to dig in Joyce's garden to get the answers! A Serotine roost was found in a tree in Astley Park in 1995 by South Lancs Bat Group. Serotines were also recorded in Yarrow Valley Park in 1992 and 1993 by South Lancs Bat Group. These records were described as 90% certain. Thanks Joyce!
