Garden birds

Post by Dave Beevers »

Most garden visitors have brought their juveniles to the feeders--Great, Blue and Coal Tits, Dunnock , Blackbird, Robin, Wood Pigeon, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Bullfinch(3), Magpie. Also 3 juv Squirrels. Surprisingly no Collared Doves.
Other sightings family of 3 Buzzards over 26/6, 2 Oystercatcher over 17/6, Stock Dove 7/6 &10/6, BH Gull regularly come down for bread with 7 22/6, 1 LBB Gull 24/6 and 1 Herring Gull through 17/6, a Goldcrest 29/5,18/6,& 26/6.
Although I reported earlier that the Swifts had returned to the Primrose Hill area of Euxton I have only seen them since on following dates--1 1/6 and 2 17/6. This compares to previous 20 years + when I have seen small double figures almost every night. this would seem to suggest that the ones I have seen this year are passing birds and the Primrose Hill colony no longer exists.
Butterflies have not been in good numbers or variety in the garden as yet.Single Large White 25/5, 18/6, 26/6. 1 Common Blue 31/5.
