Could the Chorley district be holding Nightjars ?
After the recent sighting of one and now two Nightjars in the manchester area got me thinking of a conversation a few years ago with a local of the the white coppice area in which it was mentioned Nightjars used to be seen in the area could be worth a late evening or two listening for the magic churring call , had a walk on the moorland edge this evening but there was a strong cool wind which i assume is not ideal churring weather .

Where have Nightjars been seen, Gary? Is this confidential information?

Think it is getting a bit late for Nightjars churring with any enthusiasm - but good luck.
Historically myself and Ken Green used to go to Chat Moss in the 1970s to watch and listen to Nightjars. Strangely trains along the railway line often brought on the churring! We diligently search all suitable locations in Chorley area in the 70s and 80s but never heard anything. I recall a report from Heather Lea Wood Brinscall in the late 70s but we never found any evidence. Also I think Billinge Hill Blackburn was a reported site from years early.
The Nightjars largely disappeared from Chat Moss by the mid 80s and apart from odd unsubstantiated records have not been recorded since - unless some records have been kept confidential.
Would be wonderful if they were to return!

I have just returned from Suffolk, where the nightjars on Dunwich Heath were churring away nicely, so still a chance yet.
