Great Knowley sightings

Birds seen/heard: Cuckoos active most days with 2 on Thursday evening (m & f), one yesterday and today, a female.It was observed watching other birds including a Common Whitethroat and a Reed Bunting and it was seen feeding today on Burnet Moth caterpillars and chrysalis. 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel (m & f seen separately), Common Whitethroat, Reed Bunting, Swallow, Swift, Willow Warbler family group, Chiffchaff, Sedge Warbler heard, Grasshopper Warbler heard and Tawny Owl heard.

Mammals: Common Shrew seen in the garden twice this week and a family group of around six seen on the former quarry.

Flowers: Fox & Cubs, Ragged Robin (including its white sport), Cuckoo Flower, Common Vetch, Bird's Foot Trefoil, Black Medick, Common Spotted Orchid, Southern Marsh Orchid.

Odonata: 4 Spotted Chaser, Azure Damselfly.

Butterflies and Moths: 1 Common Blue Butterfly (f), 4 Large Skipper, 2 Painted Lady, 1 Speckled Wood, 2 Green Veined White, 1 Latticed Heath, 2 Narrow Bordered 5-Spot Burnet moths (one flying & one just emerged), 2 other moths yet to be identified.
