I was across the other side of the tracks at roughly the same time and got soaked! I presume you did as well, Paul. The purpose of the visit was to try and find Quail, a few of which have been seen in the region in the last few days. Unfortunately, I was greeted by a monoculture of lettuce, across the whole of Mawdesley Moss with gangs of (presumably) east Europeans hoeing and weeding. Not much chance of Quail on there this year!
There weren't many of the usual farmland birds either, just the following seen:- Pheasant 2, Buzzard, Kestrel, Lapwing 3, Skylark 3, Pied Wagtail, Swallow 3, Chiffchaff 3, Whitethroat 2, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Linnet, Reed Bunting, Corn Bunting, Yellowhammer 3
