Bretherton Eyes

Post by Paul Hodson »

Early afternoon stroll along Eyes Lane and the canal.

Good numbers of Reed Warblers today, a minimum of 10 seen on the canal west of Lock lane, with a couple more on the Douglas.
Also on the canal was a pair of Mute Swans with at least 7 cygnets, possibly more. They were bunched together by the towpath and the parents got a bit stroppy when I stopped, so it was a rather hasty head count!
Other sightings. Whitethroat 6. Sedge Warbler 4. Linnet 4. Goldfinch. Yellowhammer. Reed Bunting. Swallow. Swift 3. House Martin. Skylark. Pied Wagtail. Shelduck 9. female Goosander over the Douglas. Several Mallard with young. Canada Goose 2. Moorhen. Lapwing c20. Oystercatcher. Red Legged Partridge 6. Buzzard. Grey Heron.

Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler take my score to 112
