First stop was Withnell Fold
No sign but did get:
Sedge Warbler 1
Jay 1
Blackcap 2
Grey Wagtail 1
Great Spotted Woodpecker 1
Lapwing 1 over
Treecreeper 2
Next stop was the Anglezarke NE corner down to High Bullough circular and back.
Redstart 3 singing (2 in woods 300m from Watermans gate either side of the path & 1 near Woodland Trail crossroads by Bullough)
Tufted Duck 2 pairs on Bullough
Oystercatcher 2
BH Gull 15
Grey Heron 1
Jay 2
Mistle Thrush 2
Treecreeper 2
Great Spotted Woodpecker 1
Roe Buck 1
But no Flycatchers
Next stop were the trees at the north end of Anglezarke
Redstart 1 singing distantly towards caravan
Goldfinch 2
Great Crested Grebe 2 on Reservoir
Finally I tried the trees on the NW corner of Anglezarke
No joy there either with only Great Spotted Woodpecker of note.
So I was feeling sorry for myself as thoughts turned to getting home to the weekend painting project.
And as I passed Watermans Cottage, you've guessed it, there sat on the cottage itself no more than 10m away was the elusive Spotted Flycatcher which gave great views !! It seemed to then be looking for a nest site too around the building. I'm sure it also looked at me and smiled !
And so the hunt for the Spotted Flycatcher is over and takes me to 131 species for the year.

Great spot John, I spent an hour on Thurs evening around Waterman's and no sign of a spotted, so it maybe new in (or just elusive - until now).
I spent a few hours around Roddlesworth from 6.45am looking for the same. Seems a great place for them and also redstarts, plenty of open woodland and lots of insects but not much about - curlew, BH & herring gull, grey wagtail (2), dipper, blackcap (6+), sg thrush, willow warbler, chiffchaff, bullfinch (m), gr - bl - LT tit and a close up of a roe deer.

Pair of Spotted Flycatchers at Watermans Cottage. Very flighty due to lots of youngsters with rucksacks passing by the cottage, and the heavy rain didn't help. Also a couple of Goldcrest and Goldfinch around. Nice to meet Neville there.
Spotted Flycatcher takes me to 82.
