White Coppice/ Heatherlea woods

Post by Paul Hodson »

Evening visit 6.00-7.30. Had a good view of a Grasshopper Warbler reeling in the rough grass below the quarry. Little Owl was calling above Stronstrey Bank. Pair of Mistle Thrush on the cricket pitch. Lesser Redpoll: Greenfinch: Song Thrush: Grey Heron.
Great Spotted Woodpecker. Chiffchaff and Goldcrest in Heatherlea woods, Cuckoo calling in the distance.

Mammals. Rabbit 5 including 2 young. Roe Deer. Fleeting glimpse of Neville Root on Coppice Lane

Grasshopper Warbler takes my score to 100

8.00-9.15pm - I thought I saw Nora on the other side of the Goit, well done both on reaching your centuries. Good to hear the gropper - pretty sure it was the same one we heard earlier in the week, some of its reeling was barely audible at times. Also, I think there are least 2 of them in the rough grass, but with groppers its sometimes hard to tell. Tawny owl and cuckoo calling, though both distant towards Hatherlea. Little owl calling and showing well as can be expected considering the failing light. Good to meet Dave Sherrington from Horwich.

Grasshopper Warbler takes Chorley species for the year total to 114
