Evening visit in the hope of Woodcock but no joy there.
Good compensation to make up for no Woodcock was a reeling * Grasshopper Warbler about 830pm and also seen in the grass near the S bend. The same or a second was reeling 300m away but not seen about 855pm.
A Little Owl was vocal up in the quarry but not seen. A Tawny Owl calling too.
* Grasshopper Warbler takes me to 123 species for the year.

Nice to meet you John I presume I was hoping for groppers too but was rewarded instead with 3 deer, a pair of cuckoo calling (Sharrocks ruins), pair of jay, tawnys calling, and curlew over.

Good to meet you too, Mark.
Those Tawnys you heard remained noticeably silent whilst I was there - just got one calling further along.
Cheers.
