At 17:00hrs tonight there were a pair of Shoveler pirouetting still on the 'splash' (a small pond in the field to the NE of the nursing home - visible from the nursing home steps) and a pair of Canada Geese about to land there. On the main lake there were Canada Geese, Mallard, a pair of Goosander and a Great Crested Grebe. Elsewhere in the park between Sheep Hill Lane and the Sue Ryder Nursing Home I saw 1 Common Buzzard, 2 singing Song Thrush, Blackbird, Robin, Carrion Crow, Woodpigeon, Jackdaw, Magpie, 1 Jay, Chaffinch, Goldcrest, Blue Tit and Great Tit.
Shoveler takes my Chorley area species list to 93.

The pair of shoveler were still present at lunchtime (12.30) today. As Len stated, the 'splash' isn't the main lake, but visible from the Sue Ryder home verandah (although the pair disappeared behind some reeds after a few mins). Other sightings similar to Len's yesterday except no goosander, but there was a cormorant on the main lake and a heron flying over.
Shoveler and the Eyes Lane flood redshank that I didn't post last week bring Chorley species total to 85

The best views of the pair of shovler is from the path at the opposite side to sue ryder on the path up to the scramble track down the hill from the new rangers hq and left up the hill path or in from wigan road past the dragonfly pond over motorway and follow main path go get some good photos
