Went early to try and beat the rain, but it started as soon as we got there.

Birds seen/ heard: 150+ Lapwing including 100+ that flew off north towards Eyes Lane, 18 Oystercatcher, 8 Shelduck, 4 (m) Goosander on the River Douglas, 4 Mallard, Teal heard, 8 Canada Geese over, 1 Kestrel, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Moorhen, 1 Reed Bunting, 4 Meadow Pipit, Wren, Blue Tit, 2 Redshank and 1 (f) Ruff.


Ruff takes my Chorley Nats Area species list to 86.

Maybe the same ruff I saw last week Len. I thought it was a female purely because it looked on the small side (compared to a nearby redshank), is that how you identified it?

It was about 10yds from the Redshank, but close to and distinctly smaller than two adjacent Lapwing it had pale coloured legs and a plain breast. You could just about make out the scalloped feathers on its back. See below (poor quality photo).
