Four hardy souls braved the elements, and got away with it, as the rain only arrived as we got back to the car park. Our reward was to have good views of a Black Redstart on the Sand Martin boxes by No.1 pit. Other than that there was a good selection of wildfowl, but nothing out of the ordinary. Small birds were thin on the ground as might be expected. Main sightings were:- Mute swan, Canada Goose, Mallard, Wigeon, Teal, Gadwall, Shoveler, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye, Coot, Moorhen, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Buzzard, Black Redstart, flock Long-tailed Tit, Siskin and Goldfinch
A carpet of fungi was also noted, photo's of which will be sent to Joyce for id.

From today's Bird Guides - Black Redstart at Brockholes Nature Reserve, still by Sand Martin bank then apparently taken by Sparrowhawk mid-morning.
