On Sunday's foray we found a strange looking fungi on the cricket pitch that we couldn't id. Dave Russell took one home to try and id and he has told me today that it was a Powdercap Strangler.
The fungi starts growing as an earthy powdercap, but is then parasitised by the Strangler making a hybrid, the stem being an earthy powdercap and the cap and gills are the powdercap strangler, quite remarkable, and very rare according to Collins field guide.

Excellent find. I hadn't heard of it before so looked it up.Did you take a photo. Obviously if proven correct it will be a new record for the area.

Thanks for the photo Len.
Joyce, the cricket field is amazing at the moment, if you get chance you should have a look, you could spend a couple of hours just on there.
