Small Skipper

One at White Coppice this morning.

Also Painted Lady and Red Admiral. Phil, is the Red Admiral more likely to be a migrant than a new generation?

I actually saw Small and Large Skippers last Sunday (10th) but forgot to put them on the first dates list!

As for the Red Admirals. Who knows?
As they seem to have appeared in the last few days, and as there are also Painted Ladies about, I would guess this is an influx of migrants. We have occasionaly had very early spring records which could relate to overwintering insects. I don't think there is any proof one way or the other.
