As I was eating my breakfast on Sat 30th Dec I was surprised to see a male pheasant walking past my window. Our garden backs onto a small woodland area. Would this have been a wild one or are they bred in the local area(Heath Charnock/Adlington).

Pheasant
Val,
Pheasant is an introduced species from long long ago, which has established a feral population throughout the country. In addition, it is bred and released in large numbers for 'sporting' purposes. Some of these survive and supplement the feral population.
I suppose the answer to your question depends on whether there is any shooting of Pheasants in your woodland.
Regards,
Neil
