Dead BH Gull in the garden this morning; presumably the victim of a SH but only mantle feathers removed - see Gallery. Also both bullfinch and brambling (possibly two) returned today.

this reminds me of a recent photography article in BirdWatch magazine. there were photos of a buzzard taking down a common gull and trying to kill it. the buzzard eventually gave up and the common gull survived, but it had all of its neck feathers plucked and its neck was a bloody mess

we wittnessed this.

A few years ago in Throstle Nest Wood. Coppull. Tommy and myself disturbed a Sparrowhawk plucking a woodpigeons neck feathers out. When it saw us it let go of the woodpigeon and the woodpigeon flew away minus its neck feathers. How long it would survive like that I dont know.
