Fungi
It is still rather early for waxcaps. They generally appear end October or November in unfertilised grassland such as found in Cuerden Valley Park or Lever Park at Rivington. The outfield of White Coppice cricket field is the best site in the Chorley area (see the Society's annual reports) but the cricket club and residents don't like people walking on the cricket field. If you do go to look, please respect this private property or, as I have in the past to carry out a survey, obtain permission from the secretary of the cricket club.
Giant puffballs are rare in the area and I don't know of any local sites where they occur regularly. If you find any, please let me know.
