There was a bird in Nottinghamshire and one near Harrogate a few days ago and with the southerly winds of recent days it would not be an unlikely record. When I've seen them fly there really is very little else like them. Is it the little church on the A59 on the left after you cross the border?

It could have been. They seem to like churchyards. The last record for the Chorley area was at St Mary's Eccleston in 1989. As Ian says there was an influx on the south coast two or three weeks ago, and they've presumably all dispersed northwards.

Had a half hour mooch there this morning before work and didn't find anything matching the description. Lots of hiding places though.
