Hitchcock - the Birds

Post by John Frankland »

Opened the curtains this morning (just over the border in Leyland near Worden Park) to be greeted with 9 Rooks and a Jackdaw in the front garden ! Both of these are a "garden tick" although are often seen flying over. Occasionally, I do get the odd Carrion Crow in the front garden but never Rook or Jackdaw.

These were then spooked by a Sparrowhawk which landed in the tree across the road.

I have seen recent postings about large flocks of Corvids on Runshaw Lane in Euxton and often see Corvid flocks heading to Worden Park in the evening.

There have also been postings on the Lancaster website about the possibility of eruptions of Jackdaws from Northern Europe - has anyone else noted more Corvids than usual ?

The Rooks returned again yesterday ! Just 8 this time but with new friends of 2 Magpies instead of the Jackdaw.

Also, 4 Carrion Crows earlier in the day.

I must have a few tasty morsels on offer in the verges and on the drive.
