White Coppice

7am to 845am this morning. No joy again with Tree Pipit but nice morning for a walk. Highlight was a family group of Siskin (1f plus 3 juv) in a Rowan plus another 1 or 2 males over. Spent an hour or so at White Coppice this evening.

No sign of any Tree Pipit but there were a couple of Meadow Pipit singing on the moor side.

Also, Linnet 1, Reed Bunting 1f, Redpoll 3, Jay 2, Willow Warbler 4, Grey Heron 1, Blackcap 1 and Swift 1.

Croston Moss/Finney circular

From great hanging bridge this evening.

Highlight was a Little Owl but in a different place than usual. Also Sedge Warbler singing on the Douglas.

Also, 4-5 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 1 Kestrel, 1 Buzzard, 1 Tree Sparrow, 6 Mistle Thrush, 6 Lapwing, 4 Yellowhammer and 2 Skylarks.

Unfortunately no Ospreys or birdies on the 18th like Ian at Duxbury yesterday ! But a glorious day of weather was better than the standard of today’s golf. Yarrow Valley CP gull

Has anyone seen Dave Croasdale’s photos on the YVCP Facebook page of today’s gull which clearly has yellow legs ?

The grey on the wings on some photos looks dark like LBB but paler grey on others which would mean Yellow Legged Gull.

Any thoughts ?

River Yarrow near Grape Lane bridge (by Croston Corn Mill) - a female Mandarin with 8 young on the river this evening. :D

Nearby on North Park, 2 Stock Dove, 8 Swallow, 1 House Martin and 2 Swift.

2 rabbits too.

Return visit this evening.

Sparrowhawk 1 over again. A falcon shot through but didn’t get an ID on it although did see 3-4 other sightings of definite Kestrel.

Reed Bunting 1, Moorhen chicks 2, Blackcap 1 and Oystercatcher 1 were additional from last week.
