Re: Great White Egret

Spotted at Brockholes yesterday on the Ribble near to where the weir was situated at 10:30 ish

Saw 2 Egrets feeding together on land at Fishwick in a weed-covered gulley where I have seen Egret here before in the past.

Re: Jay mewing like buzzard

I was in Yarrow Wood and heard a female Tawny Owl 'keeviting'. As I looked up into the tree, there were THREE jays, all 'keeviting'!!!!! They were pixel perfect!

Re: Early start?

We have 3 Schwegler woodcrete nest boxes in the wood behind our house which can easily be seen from the kitchen. One has a 28mm hole, the second 32mm, and the 3rd is one especially for nuthatches and has a 45mm hole. The 28mm box has had Blue Tits checking it out since last October. To date, the 28m...

Redwing! ......& Nest Box Activity

We have a wood at the bottom of the garden that has all sorts of wildlife activity as you can probably imagine. Yesterday I saw a Redwing in the wood which I thought was quite late for the sighting of such a bird and wondered if anyone else had seen one in recent days? I have 3 nest boxes set up in ...

I have 2 small redundant fat block cages which have been stuffed with wool and hanging on the rear garden wall.

Quite entertaining watching the coal tits and great tits helping themselves :D

Nesting Box Behaviour - Seen This Before?

We have 3 nest boxes in the wood behind the house. All 3 are clearly visible from the house as they are only 20 metres away so any activity is easy to see. It's been fun watching what we call "turf wars" as the blue tits, great tits and nuthatches squabble over the boxes. All 3 are Shwegle...

Adders & Slow Worms - Bowland

I thought it prudent to take advantage of the great sunny weather and have a look for some of our reclusive reptiles; the Adder and Slow Worm. Last year was a little bit of a disaster as no evidence of both species was found. The first Adder was spotted in a new location and the others at locations ...

Dancing Adders & Hen Harriers

What a great day last week with cuckoo, ring ouzel, peregrine, buzzard, kestrel, goshawk, sparrowhawk, raven, dipper, grey wagtail and whinchat to mention a few! To top it all I had magnificent views of a pair of hen harriers, one of which was sky-dancing and something I've never seen before in my l...

Re: Adder, Mid Wales 17/07/2014.

Absolutely fabulous Ivan, they are so good to see especially when they are so secretive. We normally try and track rare birds such as Hen Harrier, Peregrine, Merlin, Goshawk and Short Eared Owls but we fancied a stronger challenge and decided to look for Adders instead about three years ago. We have...

Re: Large Female Adder - Sunday 29th June 2014

Hi Paul. I'm envious would love to see and photograph an adder Hi Peter, there are records of adder closer to home with reports from Calf Hey Reservoir and the Pennines. You'd think that there would be adders around the fell sides at White Coppice?! They can be so difficult to see as they are silen...
